A better place to find your next watch.
HackerTube Run is an independent video discovery library for programmers, makers and curious people. It adapts the public data from HackerTube.org into a lightweight, browsable website. We are not the original HackerTube project, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by its creators, Andrej Karpathy, YouTube, Google, Hacker News or Y Combinator.
The data behind the library
This edition uses the original project’s October 31, 2026 export: 6,454 video records and 39,834 labelled Hacker News comments, grouped into 150 topics. The library is a snapshot. It does not currently refresh automatically.
Summaries, topic labels and explanations of why a video was recommended come from the source export and were generated by AI. They may contain errors or reflect outdated material. Counts describe the archive and are not live video views, endorsements or ratings from this website.
Attribution and licensing
The dataset is credited to HackerTube and the open-index/hacker-news dataset, and is used under the Open Data Commons Attribution License 1.0. We reorganize the source records into topic and video pages, sort by the source score, and display excerpts of the exported comments. Comments remain the work of their authors; each displayed comment links to its original page.
Videos and thumbnails remain the property of their creators and respective rights holders. Playback uses YouTube’s official player, and thumbnails load from YouTube. We do not host or redistribute video files. The archive export does not include current view counts, durations or upload dates. For the four selected machine learning videos, we separately checked public creator descriptions and chapter lists to provide duration and chapter navigation. Those source-backed viewing guides are separate from the archive’s AI summaries.
Open-source foundation
Our data-loading approach, record model and discovery ranking are adapted from wangw0922/hackertube, an MIT-licensed self-hosted project. This edition replaces its Node backend with generated static pages and a browser search index. Read the upstream MIT license.
Using this edition
Browse topics or search titles, channels and tags. Each video page includes the source summary, recommendation context and Hacker News comments. Use Watch later to keep a local list, or open the original YouTube page when a video cannot be embedded. Some videos may have been removed, restricted by region or made private since the dataset was exported.
