Everything on screen matters. Modern Cinema is a HIGHLY evolved art form. If you have any interest in this at all, YouTube user Every Frame A Painting publishes, short, easily digestible, and well-produced YouTube videos about this stuff that are eye-opening. Here are a few of my favorites: Edgar Wright - How to Do Visual Comedy: [VIDEO] The Silence of the Lambs - Who Wins the Scene? [LINK] Michael Bay - What is Bayhem? [LINK]

Reminds me of some of the videos from Every Frame a Painting about visual comedy in film. Specifically "Edgar Wright - How to Do Visual Comedy" [1] and "Buster Keaton - The Art of the Gag" [2]. They give and explain some great examples from different movies. [1] [VIDEO] [2] [LINK]

This is incredibly flawed in many respects. It’s not comparing actors, but the movies they starred in with different metrics for success. Those do not correlate. A mediocre actor featuring in Oscar-bait will fare better than a great actor who only works on low budget independent productions. > In general, critics seem to have a bias against comedy films. Rather, this article is very US-centric and those comedies are largely generic, unfunny, low effort movies of talking heads. [VIDEO]
